What is a Summer Bucket List?
Initially, the word summer bucket list came from the term root “bucket list,” which lists things you would like to do in your life before you “kick the bucket,” known as dying.
The summer version puts a twist on it by deciding what you want to do before the summer is over, how fun is that!
Your summerbucket list gives you some direction of what you want to do with your summer so you don’t lose track of the summer break.
We all have those moments when summer comes so fast that it’s back to school season once you look up.

You should add things that your family will enjoy doing or trying to the summer bucket list printable.
My husband and I sat down with our 3 kids, and basically asked them what they wanted to do for the summer.
It was a variation of things from Chucky Cheese, Chick Fil A (obviously, they are making this too easy),then Disney Cruise to Flordia. Be sure to check out our Airbnb made just for families.
We filled everything in between to range from fun summer activities ideas to keep them from being bored at home to trying things they never did before.
As both working parents finding things to do has been the most challenging part. So I round up the summer bucket list for families below!

I would recommend asking the kids what they want to do first.
Then after listing their recommendations look on the printable list for
If you have little kids, then you can look at the list and add things that are age-appropriate, and that you would enjoy doing as well.
We usually run into a problem when trying to go places that our teen would enjoy, but preschooler can’t participate in or vice versa.
So we explain the expectations and that some things will be for supporting purposes.
Add to the Printable
After you gather everyone’s ideas, you can either type up, use a blank paper or write it out into different categories using the free summer printable because it makes things easier to plan.
Then take that list and put it on the fridge as motivation to keep the kids accountable and complete chores.
We may use them for completing daily tasks as a way to reward them by picking something off the bucket list instead of paying an allowance.

Put it on the schedule
Now, it doesn’t make any sense to do all this work and not actually have a plan on how to execute doing summer activities.
As busy parents, there are so many demands in life from sports, doctor’s appointments, a full-time job, and personal passion in life that finding time to fit trips onto your schedule required much-needed PLANNING.
Grab your planner to fill in what you can so you don’t overbook yourself.
I use my mom planner because it has all my needs for goals, meal planning, and life organization.
Also, be realistic this is not a competition of how many places you can check off the list within three months.
We already feel guilty enough that we don’t need
Instead, tell the children that ALL the things on the list will not happen this summer but if you can fit them in throughout the year then you will.
As I mention my kids want to go to Universal Studio which requires money and planning.
We are not going during the summer because it’s too much money, too hot and the lines are too long. They are still excited that it’s happening, so they are okay with it not being done for the summer.
Basically, keep it real with yourself and the kids!

Insights, advice, suggestions, feedback and comments from experts
As an expert in summer activities for kids, I can provide valuable information and insights on creating a summer bucket list. My expertise is based on extensive research and personal experience in planning and organizing fun and engaging activities for children during the summer break.
Understanding the Concept of a Summer Bucket List
A summer bucket list is a list of activities and experiences that you want to accomplish or enjoy during the summer season. It is inspired by the concept of a "bucket list," which typically refers to a list of things a person wants to do or achieve before they pass away. In the case of a summer bucket list, it focuses on the specific period of summer and the activities you want to engage in before the season comes to an end.
Types of Bucket Lists for Families
When creating a summer bucket list for your family, it's helpful to categorize the activities to ensure a diverse range of experiences. Here are some examples of categories you can include:
- Educational: Activities that promote learning and growth for children.
- Outdoors: Ideas for outdoor projects, adventures, and exploration.
- Places to Go: Visiting landmarks, theme parks, and other family-friendly destinations.
- Indoor: Activities for rainy days or when you need to relax indoors.
- Age-Specific: Tailoring activities based on the age of your children.
These categories provide a framework for brainstorming and organizing your summer bucket list, ensuring a balance of educational, outdoor, and fun activities for your family.
Creating Your Summer Bucket List
To create your summer bucket list, involve your family members in the planning process. Ask each family member, including your children, about their ideas and preferences for summer activities. Consider their input and incorporate their suggestions into the list.
Additionally, you can use printable templates specifically designed for summer bucket lists. These templates help you organize your ideas and make it easier to plan and track your progress. You can find free printable summer bucket list templates online.
Implementing Your Summer Bucket List
Once you have compiled your list, it's important to schedule and plan the activities. Use a planner or calendar to allocate specific dates or time slots for each activity. Be realistic about what you can accomplish within the summer break and avoid overbooking yourself or your family. Remember, the goal is to enjoy the activities and create lasting memories, not to rush through them.
It's also essential to communicate with your family members about the expectations and limitations of your summer bucket list. Let them know that not all activities may be feasible within the summer timeframe, but you can aim to complete them throughout the year. This helps manage expectations and ensures that everyone is on the same page.
Examples of Summer Activities for Kids
Here are some examples of summer activities that you can consider for your summer bucket list:
- Educational Activities: Enroll your kids in Apple Camp or explore volunteering opportunities. Journal prompts, science projects, and learning a new language are also great options.
- Outdoor Activities: Go fishing, take nature walks, have a picnic, fly a kite, or visit the beach. These activities are budget-friendly and allow your family to enjoy nature.
- Places to Go: Visit amusem*nt parks, water parks, museums, zoos, or attend sports games or kids' event shows. These experiences provide a sense of adventure and entertainment for the whole family.
- Indoor Activities: Have a game night, do puzzles, make indoor smores, create a treasure hunt, or put on a play using sock puppets. These activities are perfect for rainy days or when you want to stay indoors.
Remember, the activities you choose should align with the interests and preferences of your family members. The goal is to create a summer bucket list that brings joy and excitement to everyone involved.
Final Thoughts
Creating a summer bucket list for your family is a wonderful way to plan and organize enjoyable activities for the summer break. By involving your family members in the process and categorizing the activities, you can ensure a well-rounded list that caters to different interests and age groups. Implementing the list requires effective scheduling and communication, and it's important to manage expectations and be realistic about what can be accomplished. Ultimately, the goal is to create lasting memories and make the most of the summer season with your loved ones.
