Tiana’s Palace opened on September 7th at Disneyland Resort. The previous French Market has received a complete retheme transforming the New Orleans Square restaurant into a Princess and the Frog theme. The menu itself has also seen a makeover upping the quality of the food to be on par with table service restaurants. which is something we note below in our Tiana’s Palace food review. This new quick-service restaurant is sure to become a new favorite for Disneyland guests, especially in anticipation of the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure retheme of Splash Mountain.

Though we are constantly in the parks and paying our own way to review experiences, in the case of the below article Disney hosted us the day before the restaurant opened to sample the new food and see the restaurant. All opinions are our own.

Tiana’s Palace includes tons of small details paying homage to the popular Disney Princess. The restaurant fits in nicely with the story of Tiana’s dream of running her own restaurant from the film.

Mobile order will be available with this quick pick-up window.

Look at the details in the windows to see more nods to the film and the atmosphere of New Orleans Square.

The light fixtures in the dining space are all nods to Tiana.

The menu is surrounded by Tiana’s handwritten recipe cards.

There is also a picture of Tiana as a girl with her father along with family letters.

The most stunning design of this new quick service location is the striking royal blue colors in both the floor and ceiling.

The color scheme of Tiana’s Palace makes me wish they had turned this into a full sit-down restaurant. However, there is still the same, full patio as before when it was the French Market. The building itself has not expanded and the outdoor dining space remains the same.

There is a stage set up in the seating area which faces the restaurant and dining area.

We were invited to an early opening event to write our Tiana’s Palace food review. Tiana’s Palace’s menu is another example of how Disneyland always excels at quick-service food which is something Walt Disney World fans are often jealous of- especially if they compare quick food items from Magic Kingdom to Disneyland!

I ordered the 7 Greens Gumbo which is a vegetarian dish with different types of greens which is a New Orleans tradition in itself. Along with greens, the dish also includes white beans, okra, yams, sweet potatoes, and heirloom rice. My first impression of this dish was how flavorful it was for a vegetarian item. It did not taste bland at all and had the perfect amount of seasoning to give it that Gumbo flavor. It is not a spicy item but is definitely not boring either! Guests also have the option of adding meat to this dish.

I also sampled the cornbread which was light and fluffy. It was good! But it can be hard to mess up cornbread. My initial impression it was about on par with typical cornbread sides you would order at a restaurant.

I tried the Joffrey’s Coffee Chicory Cold Brew with my meal and this may be one of the most exciting bits about trying this new menu! The cold brew was perfectly flavored with that slight nutty taste from the chicory and the sweet cream mixed in made it the perfect, traditional cold brew coffee. This drink was also not as sweet as other coffee drinks around the resort. In fact, it can be tricky to find a cold brew that doesn’t come with a pile of Coco Puffs (looking at you, Galaxy’s Edge!) and tastes like what it is meant to be in the first place…. coffee! I see this becoming a new place for guests looking for a quick place to grab a coffee and avoid the long Starbucks lines. You can also get it without the sweet cream.

For dessert, I had to try the newHouse-filled Beignet which is filled with Lemon Ice Box Pie filling and topped with a Lemon Glaze. While this was delicious, this beignet was a bit too sweet and sticky for my liking. I prefer the more traditional, non-filled beignets over at the Mint Julep Bar. (Which has now reopened!) However, if you enjoy tarte desserts, you will love this beignet.

The kids meal included baked mac and cheese which is far superior to ANY mac and cheese we’ve had at Disneyland.

You can also order your lemon beignet with a novelty ceramic plate to take home!

Overall, the quality of the food at Tiana’s Palace is on par with many table service restaurants and this retheme was a perfect way to incorporate Tiana into New Orleans Square.
