Ingredient Notes

• Tazo Passion tea bag: Starbucks uses Teavana’s Passion Tango tea concentrate to make their iced tea, but that isn’t sold anywhere and neither is Passion Tango in tea bags. Instead, I’m using a very close version that’s made by Tazo.
• Water: Use filtered water if possible for a better tasting tea.
• Ice: Make ice using filtered water too, if possible.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Put tea bag and hot water into a teapot.

Simmer water on the stovetop or use an electric kettle. Set the water temperature to 190°F when using the electric kettle.

Step 2: Cover and steep.

Step 3: Put ice and hot tea into a co*cktail shaker. Shake. Put ice in first, then the hot tea.

Step 4: Pour iced tea into a cup.

Expert Tips

• I first tried making this drink with the Tazo Iced Passion tea concentrate it’s nowhere as good as making iced tea from the tea bag. The concentrate was a dull brownish-red color instead of vibrant red, tasted watered down, and cloyingly sweetened.
• This recipe was also tested using 2 tea bags per 16 ounce serving and the drink wasn’t as light and refreshing as it was using just 1 tea bag. Stick with just 1 tea bag per serving to have it taste like the Starbucks version.
• There’s no need to use boiling hot water to make the hot tea for iced tea. Simmered water works just as well and it’ll cool down quicker.
• Tea bags contain small, crushed pieces of herbals so you don’t need to steep it for as long as you would whole herbals.
• Starbucks doesn’t sweeten their Iced Passion Tango Tea, but if you want to add a little sweetener, use a simple syrup. It’ll mix easily into an iced drink.
• The more vigorously you shake the iced tea, the more foam you’ll see on the surface. If you like a lot of foam, keep shaking it, about 40 times.
